How to Dress for a Job Interview

Avoid the Unusual

When you are at a job interview, avoid anything unusual.

Show you fit in

When you are at a job interview, you want the employer to think that you fit into the work place and will get along well with co workers. Don't be a rebel or don't appear to be a rebel. Employers don't usually want a rebel that will cause trouble in the workplace.

One of the objective of an interview is for the employer to determine if the potential candidate will fit into the workplace and can work well with other co workers. Also, the job interview is for the job candidate to find out more about the job, the company, and the workplace. After all the job candidate needs to know if he or she will be able to work at that job happily.

Many times, the job candidate will get to meet other people who work there. The objective of meeting as many people as possible during a job interview is to determine if the job candidate will fit in. No one will be happy if a rebel or someone who does not fit in gets hired.

Shine shoes/hose

Shoes are something many people overlook. For some job candidates, shoes are the last things they put on and usually when they realize that their shoes need to be shone, they don't have time. For others, shoes are not important enough for job interviews.

However, shoes are very important for first impression. Many people when they meet someone for the first time, they will look at that person from head to toe (including their shoes) to get the first impression. The interviewer does too. The interviewer will often look at the interview candidate from head to toe to determine how appropriate he or she dresses.

Jacket

When going for a job interview at a corporation or big companies, a jacket is usually either required or recommended. Most people will wear a suit when going for any big job interviews.

Finally, dress a step of two above the job interviewer. It is better to over dress conservatively than under dress. You want the employer or interviewer to give you compliment on your dress or suit and then say 'usually you can just wear jeans and golf shirt to the office' rather than have the interviewer say 'do you own a suit?'
