What are the mechanics of the job interview thank you letter or note?
  • Be sure your job interview thank you letter or note includes your contact information (your address, phone or email) and a date.

  • Refer to the title(s) of the person or people who job interviewed you:
    Ms. Jane Doe, Personnel Manager

  • Mention the date of the job interview and the position you interviewed for.

  • Refer to a specific part of the job interview that will remind them who you are. Use phrases that tell the interviewer that you were paying attention:
    "I was impressed by ... " "I noticed that. .. " "I recognized the importance of ... "

  • Touch on one or two qualifications you have for the job: "I hope to be able to bring my QuickBooks skills and years of tax experience to this job.", use good English style, spelling and punctuation. This is a good opportunity to show your writing skills. Check a business writing guide, if necessary. Do a draft of a hand-written note to check spelling, etc, then copy it.

  • Close the letter with an expression of interest: "Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you soon."
