How to prepare for job applications

While making contact with work is key to good job applications, the key to making a start in the employment market is to recognize that this can take place in many ways and at many levels. Making contacts and finding entry points usually depends on initiatives by individuals for themselves. Sitting at home and replying to job advertisements is often unproductive and dispiriting. You need to be more creative in your job search. Some of the ways to get exposure to the line of work you are interested in which will give you an edge over other applicants are:

  • making short visits to companies you are interested in
  • work shadowing
  • volunteer work
  • clerical and manual work
  • part time work
