List of Action Verbs

A list of action verbs is very handy when writing an eye catching resume. Action verbs are very good to use in resume or CV because when listing your activities and interests on a resume, it may not be immediately obvious to the reader what they involve. It can be useful to add a phrase or sentence that explains what you achieved or did using action verbs. Below is a list of action verbs and you can choose the action verbs that are most suitable.

Example of how to use action verbs

For example, in your resume, you may have 'College Music Society 1994-1995 Secretary'. You resume will be much more effective if you add action verbs as shown:

  • 'responsible for getting the committee members to work together in organizing concerts' or
  • 'co-ordinating members in mounting concerts'
