Purpose of interview
Ability to get the job done in a timely
fashion
Having the ability to solve problems or do a
job is not usually the most desirable quality in the corporate
world. After all, what good is a skill if the person cannot
finish the job and have the products to show for. In the past,
the best brain was the most desirable. So, whoever can solve
the most difficult problem wins. That is still the case in the
Academic world. However, when dealing with profit companies,
the ability to solve a problem is not as useful and profit
generating as the ability to solve problem AND explain it to
others.
Many companies turn down the most
intelligent candidates because they fear they cannot work with
that candidate. Many profit companies prefer the job to be done
satisfactorily this week rather than wait months for the end
result. During those months, they are foregoing their potential
income that the satisfactory products may generate.
Teamwork (if teamwork environment)
Teamwork is necessary in most corporate
companies. Most jobs cannot be done alone. If a company hires
someone who does not get along with any co workers or the
corporate policies, the employer will have a problem which will
slow productivity.
Suitability at the workplace
Employers also look for candidates in
interview who exhibit certain characteristics they deem
suitable for the company and the workplace. For example, the
company may want a long term employee who aspire to move up in
ranks and stay with the company for a long long time. Other
companies may want candidates who has a strong view on certain
policies or laws. It is a matter of who the employer thinks
fits in their company culture.
